About the Tool
In 2011, members of the Occupy Wellington movement met with people at Enspiral and together realized that they needed a better collaborative decision-making tool. They set out to build a tool to support non-hierarchical organizations - those who do not conduct top-down decision-making but also who found sitting around in a circle trying to achieve consensus too slow and inefficient. In 2013, Loomio registered as a worker-owned cooperative. They conducted a successful crowdfunding campaign to raise initial capital followed by further ethical capital investment issuing "Redeemable Preference Shares" with a small group of values-aligned investors. They released Loomio 2.5 early in 2021. Today, they are a small team and as new capital becomes available, they invest in sustainable growth.
