What was the problem?

For many communities, the current global economy does not work in favor of their overall well-being: Some critical needs, for example related to healthcare or education are not met; people are much less social to be fully healthy.

How does the community approach the problem?

The alliance of timebanks in Michigan helps individuals set up or run timebanks so that community members can get the services they need and at the same time, give back with their services to the community. This exchange helps to turn communities into special units of support and familiarity.

Technique
The alliance operates according to a few principles [2]: 1. Assets – We are all assets 2. Redefining Work – Some work is beyond price 3. Reciprocity – Helping works better as a two-way street 4. Social Networks – We need each other 5. Respect – Every human being matters

What were the results?

Several community-run timebanks across the Michigan state are part of the alliance, continuing to strengthen bonds between individuals and communities.
