Community Forestry
Community Forestry is a process where members of the forest communities have the ability to make decisions on their forests and its resources. The decisions can be varied from who can access, what are the extent of cultivation, the day-to-day management of its resources, and responsibilities for preservation.
What are some key problems that this process can solve?
• Environmental degradation of forests
• The previously missing meaningful role that forest communities had in the governance of their forests
• Keeping out industrialists and smugglers trying to exploit the rich forest resources
How does this process work?
The government helps with concessions, but many forest and environmental groups support the implementation of the concessions in partnership with the forest communities.
