Collective ownership and stewardship of real estate
Community members co-owning and maintaining real estate with long-term mechanisms.
What are some key problems that this process can solve?
The East Bay Permanent Real Estate Collective, based out of California and co-run by People of Color, helps communities collectively become home-owners. Therewith, marginalized communities get to access housing in a heavily gentrified area with a speculative housing market. Collective ownership and stewardship of land and housing act as a protective tool against systemic oppression and exploitation.
How does this process work?
East Bay Permanent Real Estate Collective lays the foundation for collective ownership and stewardship with share agreements prepared according to California law, a resident education program and an ongoing support program with their staff (e.g. for taxes, property management and bookkeeping).
