DisCO – Distributed Cooperative Organization
DisCO is a governance model for self-sustaining, mission-oriented, distributed organizations with pro-bono, care and paid work opportunities. The tool gives recommendations on managing: - Roles and responsibilities within the organization and how decisions are made - Contribution and tracking - Decision making processes
About the Tool
The DisCO Governance Model is developed and in use by the Guerilla Media Cooperative, which is a commons-oriented, feminist translation cooperative. The model is documented thoroughly to enable the use of other organizations.
The bare bones of the model are the credits, which are accumulated by each member of the cooperative by producing pro bono or paid work. Different types of work yield different credits and a member’s returns are calculated based on their credits. In addition, there are different types of membership options with differing responsibilities and commitments.
